The objective of this project is to renovate the Belk building of downtown Albemarle, NC. Since it is a historic building, we are trying to preserve the historical aspects of this space while making it a place that caters to the people of Albemarle and it should also serve as a starting point to the downtown area.
I want to create a space that encompasses a variety of users and spaces. The idea of this design is to promote local goods and provide a fun, community atmosphere in this vacant building. This proposed space will include a restaurant and bar which serves food grown locally, a wine retail store which sells wine harvested from local vineyards and a gallery space that exhibits and sells local artists work. Above this retail area, residential units are available for people wanting to downsize and live in a community atmosphere with convenient features.
The concept for this project is diffusion. Not only do I want this building to serve as a starting place for the downtown life, but also within the building diffusion will be visible through the branching out of spaces from one communal area.
